Poradnik | ProGogle
-->

The lens in motocross goggles is the part that wears out the fastest. It scratches from rocks, gets muddy, and loses clarity after a few seasons. The good news? Replacing the glass is one of the simplest things to do., which you can do yourself at home without any tools.

In this guide, we'll show you how to replace the lens in the most popular MX goggle models: Oakley Airbrake, Scott Prospect, 100% Armega and Rip N Roll Colossus. We'll also show you when it's worth replacing your windshield, what types of windshields are available, and what to watch out for to avoid damaging anything.

When to replace the lens in your goggles?

You don't always have to buy new goggles. Sometimes a new lens is all you need to restore full visibility. Here are the signs it's time for a replacement:

Scratches and scratches visible against the light, which scatter the sun's rays and impair visibility

Yellowing or dulling after prolonged use (especially in clear lenses)

Cracks or chips after being hit by a stone

Peeling coatings mirror or anti-fog lenses that are starting to flake off

Changing driving conditions e.g. transition from summer to autumn, where instead of mirror glass you need a transparent one

Rule of thumb: If you look through the glass against the light and see a network of scratches that distract you, it's time for a new one.

Types of lenses for motocross goggles

Before we move on to replacement, it's worth knowing what lenses are available and when each one works best.

Clear

A versatile lens for all conditions. It performs perfectly on cloudy days, in the forest, at dusk, and in the rain. This is a lens you should always have as a spare.

Clear Oakley Airbrake Lens

Fast Clear Scott Prospect

Clear 100% Accuri / Strata

Mirror (mirror / chrome)

Reduces glare on sunny days. Looks great and protects your eyes from intense light. Not suitable for riding in the shade, in the woods, or after dark.

Rip N Roll Mirror Lens for Oakley Airbrake

Yellow/orange (hi-vis)

It improves contrast on cloudy and foggy days. Popular in enduro, where riding through forests limits light. Not every manufacturer offers it for every goggle model.

Dark (smoke)

It works like sunglasses. Great in full sun on an open track. Absolutely not suitable for riding in the shade or after dark.

How to replace the glass step by step

The procedure varies slightly depending on the goggle model, but the general principle is the same in all brands: the glass is held on the hooks (outriggers) on the sides of the frame and comes out without tools.

Oakley Airbrake

The Oakley Airbrake has one of the simplest lens replacement systems on the market. Two locks on the sides of the frame allow you to swap lenses in less than a minute.

Remove the goggles from the helmet and place them on a flat, clean surface (towel or microfiber)

On both sides of the frame you will find lock levers (switch lock). Slide it to the "unlocked" position (usually up)

Gently pry the glass from the bottom, starting from the center. The glass will detach from the hooks

Remove the old glass and set it aside

Take a new glass and put it on from above, fitting the top edge into the frame

Press the lower part of the glass until you hear it. click on both sides

Move the lock levers back to the "locked" position„

Check if the glass is sitting evenly and there is no play.

Tip: Don't touch the inside of the lens with your fingers. Oil from your fingers damages the anti-fog coating. Hold the lens by the edges or wear clean gloves.

Scott Prospect / Fury

Scott uses a side-attachment system (outriggers) that require a bit more force than Oakley, but you can still do it without tools.

Remove the goggles and place them on a clean surface.

Find outriggers (plastic elements on the sides of the frame to which the strap is attached)

Pull the outrigger outward (away from the frame). You will feel a slight resistance.

Simultaneously slide the window forward. The glass will come out of the groove in the frame

Repeat on the other side

New glass you insert from the front into the groove of the frame, starting from the nose (center)

Push the outriggers back in. They should snap into place with a click.

Check if the glass is properly seated around the entire circumference

100% Armega / Racecraft / Accuri

The 100% goggles feature either the Forecast system (Armega) or a simple clip-on system (Accuri, Racecraft). The Armega is the easiest to replace of the 100% family.

In models Armega: pull the tabs on the sides of the frame and the glass will slide forward

In models Accuri / Racecraft / Strata: pull the side hooks outwards and slide out the glass

Slide the new glass into the frame groove from the front, starting from the top

Press the sides until they snap into place.

Rip N Roll Colossus

Rip N Roll goggles with WVS (Wide Vision System) have a lens mounted on the side clips, similar to Scott.

Pull the side tabs outwards

Slide the window forward

Slide the new glass into the frame, starting from the top

Snap the side hooks in

If you have Rip N Roll goggles with a roll-off system, remove the roll-off cassette first before replacing the glass. After replacing it, reinstall it.

5 mistakes you must avoid when replacing your windshield

Touching the inside of the glass fingers. Grease destroys the anti-fog coating. The result? The lens fogs up after 5 minutes of driving. Always hold it by the edges.

Forced exchange. If the glass doesn't fit, don't force it. Check that it's properly seated in the groove. Force = breakage.

Cleaning the glass with paper or a dry cloth. This will scratch the coating. Use only a soft microfiber cloth dampened with water or special goggle fluid.

Storing goggles without a bag. The lens will scratch from contact with other items in the bag. Each pair of goggles should be stored in a microfiber bag.

Using mirror glass in the forest. The mirror coating reduces light. In the shadows of a forest or at dusk, you can see almost nothing. Always clear in such conditions.

How to care for your new windshield so it lasts longer

After each ride Rinse the glass with lukewarm tap water to remove sand and dust. Only then wipe with a microfiber cloth.

Never wipe a dry glass right away. The sand particles act like sandpaper.

Do not use alcohol-based products for cleaning. They damage anti-fog and mirror coatings.

Store your goggles in a bag made of microfiber, away from direct sunlight and heat (not on the car dashboard!).

Have a spare glass always in your bag. Clear is a minimum. This way, you'll never be left without visibility after damaging your windshield on the track.

Which lens should I choose?
